Toronto's ActiveTO program continues for another weekend

Several roads in the city of Toronto are closed for the ActiveTO program this weekend.

ActiveTO was developed by Toronto Public Health and transportation services to provide more space for people to be active while physical distancing in the wake of COVID-19. A key component is road closures.

From Saturday, May 15 at 6 a.m. until Sunday, May 16 at 9 p.m., the following roads will be off limits to motorists:

• Lake Shore Boulevard West (eastbound lanes only) from Leslie Street to Woodbine Avenue.

• Bayview Avenue from Front Street East to Rosedale Valley Road, and River Street from Bayview Avenue to Spruce Street.

• Roads through High Park from Friday at 11 p.m. until Monday at 7 a.m. (approximately).

• For the first time this year, Lake Shore Boulevard West (eastbound lanes only), between Windermere Avenue and Stadium Road.

During these closures, roads are only accessible on foot or bicycles. Drivers should note parking in these areas is limited and no onsite parking is available.

All weekend, City staff will actively monitor traffic congestion on all affected routes. Signal timing at the intersection of Windermere Avenue and Lake Shore Boulevard West as well as at the intersection of Leslie Street at Lake Shore Boulevard East will also be adjusted. There will also be paid duty officers at key intersections along Lake Shore Boulevard West to ensure safe access to roads on the southside of the roadway.

The City is also working out the details of a closure of Allen Road starting June 5 as well as other weekend closures along Black Creek Drive and roads within Exhibition Place.
