PlayOLG: Tips for the Ontario Lottery on How to Improve its Online Gaming Venue

PlayOLG, the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation's own online casino, has recently turned two years old. The company has not released any information about the venue's performance yet but - considering that it has some of the features its offshore competitors have to offer - one can expect it to show a considerable growth compared to its first year. While PlayOLG is by far the most attractive one of the three state-run Canadian online casinos, there are still quite a few aspects that it needs to improve to stand a chance against its offshore competitors.

Go mobile!>

An online casino with no mobile version is considered by the average player to be far behind the competition. International operators have gone mobile years ago, offering an ever-increasing library of smartphone games for their players to choose from.

The Platinum Play Casino, a popular international online gambling venue, has a mobile version with more than 130 games to choose from. Compared to this, the entire library of PlayOLG - 95 casino games in total, and all of them running on desktop web browsers only - is very weak. PlayOLG's game library is even smaller than the one at Slotomania, a social casino app used by many Canadian and international players.

This is one area where PlayOLG should improve significantly, and preferably sooner rather than later.

Game variety

To continue the idea started above, PlayOLG should add many more games to its library to stay competitive with its offshore counterparts. Its library currently consists of only 95 titles, which is minuscule compared to what its offshore competitors have to offer. To stick with the above example, the Platinum Play Casino currently has a collection of over 300 games that run in a desktop web browser and more than 130 games that run on smartphones. There are many other gaming venues out there - trusted international operators with a large following - that have libraries provided by multiple developers that far exceed even that: Unibet, a Sweden-based operator has 555 casino games, while Tropezia Palace, another international operator, has even more.

If it doesn't offer the same variety of games than its competitors or at least something similar, PlayOLG will never become as popular as it could be.

Last but not least, a word about promotions. New PlayOLG players can redeem a welcome bonus worth $15 with their first real money deposit, with a playthrough requirement of 10x attached. This is really good - the requirements international operators attach to their similar bonuses are usually much larger. The problem is, though, that the maximum amounts they offer are also much larger: new Platinum Play users can redeem a welcome package worth up to $/€1,000 and 50 Free Spins on various slot machines, attached to their first five deposits. While their conditions are far less favorable - they have a 40x playthrough requirement - the amount itself looks far more attractive.

Nobody says PlayOLG should compete with its offshore counterparts in bonus amounts - it's a battle very hard to win. It should consider, though, the apparent attractiveness of its special offers more carefully.
