Wonders of the World: 7 photos of the Great Wall of China that will leave you spellbound

There's a reason why some beautiful monuments come under the category of the Wonders of the World. From their exquisite architecture to the beautiful history behind it, the wonders are a sight to behold. Apart from skiing at the Alps and chilling by the shore in Mauritius, it's the seven wonders of the world that everyone wants to visit. After Christ, the Redeemer here's closely looking at one wonder that everyone wants to visit, the Great Wall of China. The stone and earth fortification was built between the 5th century and 16th century to protect the borders of the Chinese Empire from invading Mongols. The world's longest manmade structure spans up to 4,000 miles.

The official website describes it as, "Several walls were being built as early as the 7th century BC; these, later joined together and made bigger and stronger, are now collectively referred to as the Great Wall. Especially famous is the wall built 220–206 BC by Qin Shi Huang, the first Emperor of China. Little of that wall remains. Since then, the Great Wall has on and off been rebuilt, maintained, and enhanced; the majority of the existing wall is from the Ming Dynasty."
